Matching Gifts

Sometimes when a donor makes a gift, his or her employer is willing to match the gift. The Matching Gift Manager helps you manage that process by keeping track of what gifts are expected to be matched so that you can follow up.

When you add a gift, use the Add a Matching Gift button to select the name of the organization making the matching gift and to enter the amount to be matched.

When you receive the match, you add that gift to the matching organization and use the Match a Gift button to select the gift or gifts that are being matched by this gift. A matching organization might send a single check to match more than one of your gifts, so when you enter the check, you can select more than one gift to match.

Note that you cannot have a gift matched by more than one matching gift, though a matching gift can apply to more than one matched gift. For example, three employees of Apple Computer might give you gifts to be matched by Apple, and Apple can match all three with a single gift. However, if an employee of Apple whose wife works at Google indicates that both companies are matching a single gift from the couple, you cannot record that in ExceedFurther without splitting the gift into two gifts, each matched by one company.

The Matching Gift Manager tab displays all of the expected and received matches so you can easily see what has been received and what still needs to be followed up.

The list of gifts displayed on this tab is the list of all gifts that have been marked to be matched by someone else. You can choose to display only the gifts that are expecting matches but the matching gifts have not yet been received, or you can display the gifts that have already been matched.  In addition you can select a date range of gifts to display.

The Matching Gift Manager has a single button:

1. Receive Matching Gift - this brings up the gift entry screen where you can add a gift from the expected matching organization. If the gift matches more than one gift, first select all of the gifts to be matched and then click on the button. By adding the gift from here, all of the matched gifts are automatically marked as matched by this gift.
